Women in Science Scholarship
At the ENS Paris-Saclay, women make up 30% of students but only account for 12.7% of students in computer science, engineering, mathematics and physics.
Interest
Gender parity in scientific and technical fields cannot be reduced to mere equity: it must be a driving force of our nation’s creativity and productivity. Young women’s education, especially at a young age, is a critical issue; it is essential to intervene early on, by teaching them believe in their talent and ability to succeed in scientific fields, by arming them to challenge stereotypes and by offering them our unflinching support, so that their passion may become a professional calling.
Objectives
- Encouraging women and supporting them as they study science and technical fields;
- Offering 15 scholarships each year;
- In the medium term, doubling the portion of women in fundamental science and engineering.
Program Features
- A monthly 1,000€ scholarship over a year of studying at the ENS for non-civil-servant students;
- Access to a special mentorship program;
- Reinforcements to the women in science’s support network.
“Encouraging young women to pursue science and technology is essential to attain gender equality in our society.”
Charlotte Vandeputte (Freshman year of 1997, Economy and Management), Talent Leader at Deloitte
Social Criteria Scholarship
In the last 10 years, social diversity in grandes écoles has not improved at all. Background, family interest in higher education, geographical origins are important factors in the lack of diversity in the student body.
Interest
Being accepted into one of the Republic’s grandes écoles is a great step in upward social mobility. Making this opportunity accessible to young people from less privileged backgrounds, and helping them radically change their future through an excellent education is something our society must fight for on behalf of its future generations. Through education, we can break the cycle of disprivilege and open doors to new and promising horizons.
Objectives
- Finding and attracting hidden talents everywhere in France;
- Significantly increasing the amount of young people from underprivileged backgrounds at the School;
- Fostering a diverse, inclusive and united environment for the development of talents, made richer by the addition of all these different points of view.
Program features
- A monthly 400€ scholarship throughout the 4 years of education at the School (for level-5+ bursary-eligible students);
- Participation in the mentorship/tutoring program;
- Support for the development of the student network.
“I come from a family of shopkeepers. My parents never had the opportunity to pursue higher education, and I became a pillar of strength for them: today, they have better living conditions. My project became my whole family’s.”
Maria Camila Porras Rivera (Freshman class of 2014, Social Science and Humanities), biodiversity economy and financing advisor at Biotope in Bogota.
