Excellence, curiosity, versatility

The base on which our students build their qualities remains the same:

First of all, the ENS Paris-Saclay does pick candidates based on whether they are the best ‘racehorse’ among the applicants; it picks them because they have the right profile. It is one of the only schools in the world which singles out young students based on their ‘researcher spirit’, their ability to identify as-of-yet uncharted or unknown areas of study, which 99% of people know little or nothing about. The school then focuses on cultivating this curious, versatility and critical quality in students, so that they may give shape to and share the keys to understanding complex topics, whatever they may be.

Forever a student of the ENS

Our students are particularly adapted to environments where one must navigate between untold amounts of fragmented and varied information. In a world where information is increasingly abundant and, by nature, multidisciplinary, it is crucial to adopt the right mindset and approach to guarantee the success of organisations. Students of the ENS are particularly well-adapted to such situations, as they are able to analyse, combine and streamline different areas of expertise, without necessarily being an expert in any one of them., Jérôme explains. He shares how he still uses these skills to this day to lead his company. “Us students of the ENS always proceed in the same way: specify working hypotheses, identify the best solutions for the situation, define the scope statement according to areas of expertise.”

Giving back a little of what was gained

In addition to his role as president of the ENS Alumni association, Jérôme Laurre became a sponsor of the School’s “Women in Science” program. “If we want to recruit more women in engineering positions, we must first convince young girls that they belong in scientific fields”, Jérôme states. “I am a firm believer in equity. Nothing is more intolerable than self-censorship.” That is why he encourages other alumni to take part in these efforts.

If every former student at the ENS Paris-Saclay deems their education to have had a major impact on their professional or personal life, they must realize that they themself have become part of the School’s mission. Supporting the ENS Paris-Saclay means helping it go beyond the limits of its public budget. Every project is a means to helping the School carry out its missions.
